Police Nab Five in Connection With Multi-Million Check Fraud

SERDANG, 1 JANUARY, 2011: Four local men and a woman from China have been arrested in connection with a multi-million ringgit check fraud and a burglary case in Taman Sungai Besi Indah here.

Following the break-in case, closed-circuit television camera recording at the house enabled police to apprehend the first suspect, a 30-year-old man, at a petrol station near the housing area early Wednesday.

The arrest led the police to a house in Taman Bukit Desa where three local men, aged 32 and 33, and a 22-year-old woman from China, were nabbed.

Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said police believed they had managed to thwart a check fraud syndicate, masterminded by one of the suspects, after various equipment used to forge bank checks were found in the house.

Also seized were 2,501 multi-bank checks worth RM2,923,464 as well as a computer, four printers and three luxury cars - Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi Lancer VR4 and Nissan Sentra - one of which was believed to be used during the burglary, he told reporters here today.

Tun Hisan said police also found 13.95gm of syabu, 22.32gm of ketamine, and 23 Eramin Five pills, worth about RM600,000 in the house.

All of the suspects also tested positive for drugs, he said.

Initial investigations found that the woman was a student at a language center in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, while two of the four men had previous criminal records related to drugs.
