KANGAR: Police have detained a man who allegedly battered his wife while in confinement at their home in Kampung Repoh near here.
The 27-year-old mother of two had delivered the couple's second daughter, about 40 days ago.
Investigations revealed that the man was fuelled by jealousy when he struck his wife with a stone pestle, chair and photo frame.
The 40-year-old suspect was also said to have torched the woman's clothes and motorcycle in the incident about 5am Sunday.
District police chief Supt Abdul Rahman Mohd Noordin said the incident occurred when the victim was at the house with the couple's children, the other aged five.
"The man had just returned from Kuala Lumpur when he allegedly struck his wife with a pestle, chair and photo frame, in what we believe to be due to jealousy," he said today.
He said the victim was warded at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital while the suspect was remanded for four days to facilitate investigations.
