MACC a house of criminals, says Kit Siang

MACC a house of criminals, says Kit Siang

By Joseph Sipalan and Lee Way Loon | Jul 27, 11
Malaysiakini

INTERVIEW Responsibility for the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock lies squarely on the shoulders of the BN, which created a monster in the form of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), senior DAP leader Lim Kit Siang says.

Lim said the recently released report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh’s death details a “horror” story that clearly outlines the gross abuses of the power MACC wields.

“… we let Parliament pass it (the MACC Act of 2009), gave it increased powers and funding, all sorts of support (were) given. What has happened? It became a monster,” he told Malaysiakini in an exclusive interview.

Lim, who marks 45 years in active politics this year, accused the BN of using the MACC, particularly the Selangor MACC, to further its political agenda in wresting the state back from Pakatan Rakyat rule.

He said the RCI finding – the first document he has personally read since undergoing an operation on his left eye last April – pointed to “utter contempt of the law” by MACC officers and gross abuse of power in carrying out an operation against Pakatan elected representatives that had no basis.

However, Lim’s biggest target was the then Selangor MACC deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim, who he accused of serving the will of the BN through the many officers he roped in to carry out the investigation and raids on Teoh’s boss, Seri Kembangan state assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Lim went on to accuse Hishamuddin, who was promoted to Negeri Sembilan MACC chief after he was taken off Teoh’s case, of leading a “massive operation”, with MACC officers who “broke law after law, not only the SOP (standard operating procedures) but all the laws”.

He added: “It is very clear. Hishamuddin (below, left) was the deputy director, but he acted as if he was more powerful than the director, even without referring to the headquarters.

“It cannot be only (an) anti-corruption operation. Definitely this was part of a political agenda, to topple Pakatan in Selangor (by) going for a DAP, Pakatan assemblyperson, and that must be (the) background to it.

“Otherwise, how can a person, a deputy director, have such great powers, acting and believing he can act with utter immunity and impunity? And he is not someone who is a newbie. He’s got 19 years in the MACC, and suddenly, he acted so arrogantly.

“I’m sure (this is) because he was serving a political agenda, and that can only mean the BN agenda to topple (Pakatan).”

‘Shut down the MACC’

Lim brushed aside claims that the DAP has been milking Teoh’s death in custody for political mileage, stressing that the issue at hand was holding the MACC to account, particularly since it was formed to replace the discredited Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).

As an immediate measure, he said, the MACC should suspend Hishamuddin, investigating officer Mohd Anuar Ismail and assistant superintendent Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus – the three officers said to have used “aggressive” and “inappropriate” interrogation tactics on Teoh – besides charging them with breaking several laws in the course of their investigations.

Lim added that the trio, and most of the other MACC officers called to the witness stand during the Teoh RCI, should also be charged with perjury, since the Royal Commission had found that many of them – save for two officers – had lied in their testimonies.

“It’s not suicide, we don’t accept that… twice the phrase was used, ‘MACC officers who were responsible for the death of Teoh Beng Hock’. So it’s very clear, even the (RCI) commissioners are unanimous (in) that the MACC officers are responsible for the death of Teoh Beng Hock.”

Lim stressed that it was unacceptable for the MACC, which was formed with the aim of restoring public confidence in its ability to operate independently, professionally and efficiently in combating graft, had ended up doing the complete opposite.

Taking the example of the hostile takeover of the Perak state government in 2009, when the MACC investigated the then speaker V Sivakumar for alleged abuse of power, Lim said the three officers involved should likewise be investigated on the same grounds as in Teoh’s case.

“The MACC, particularly the Selangor (MACC), has (become a) house of criminals who break laws left, right and centre. (It’s) completely lawless.

“This is so ridiculous. If somebody lists down the crimes committed in the whole Teoh Beng Hock episode, I think you will have a very long list.

“I think we should seriously consider closing down the MACC and having another anti-corruption body, if that is possible. If that is not possible, then the only way is for a change in Putrajaya; maybe that (Teoh’s case) is the last straw… it is not a question of politics, but a question of survival,” Lim said.

Anti-Bersih group holds Najib to ransom

Anti-Bersih group holds Najib to ransom

By Clara Chooi
The Malaysian Insider
Jul 11, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Anti-Bersih supporters have mounted a petition online, threatening to abandon its support for Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration if the prime minister fails to revoke the citizenships of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan and punish Bersih marchers.

Pledging one million signatures, the petition started by one Rahmat Azim Abd Aziz, 39, warns Najib against ignoring its five demands, saying its signatories would not hesitate to rebel to defend Malaysia, “even without the help of Datuk Seri’s (Najib) government”.

As of 8pm today, the petition entitled, “Legal action and recommendations to His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia to revoke medals and accolades” has attracted 173 signatures.
It was created on petitiononline.com, a site that hosts online public petitions for free, but Facebook users have since caught wind of it and are sharing links to the site on fan pages and their profile pages, urging others to sign it.

“If Datuk Seri does not take stern action and monitor subversive elements and efforts to tarnish the country’s image, Malaysians will lose direction and faith in your leadership.

“When this happens, traitors to the country will find it easier to take over our beloved Malaysia. Datuk Seri’s efforts will become pointless and the futures of our youths will become uncertain,” the petition said.

Claiming to represent the views of a majority of the government’s supporters, the petition urged that its demands be given “full and serious” consideration, saying that “peace, harmony, unity and Malaysia’s economic strength” are important elements for the present and coming generations.

“Racism and disunity have become more widespread due to incitement from opposition parties, NGOs and foreign agents. We want stability, economic strength and unity.

“All of Datuk Seri’s efforts in developing the economy will be destroyed in the blink of an eye simply because of those who are uncomfortable with seeing progress in Malaysia,” said the petition.

In its demands, the petition called on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin to revoke the titles of Ambiga, Anwar, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and national laureate Datuk A. Samad Said.

It also wants Anwar and Ambiga’s citizenships revoked, saying the duo had instigated the people to riot, rebel and defy the country’s rule of law.

It also demands that legal action be taken against any of the 91 individuals who violated a court order obtained by the police barring them from entering the city on July 9.

Among those who were locked out were Ambiga, Anwar, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, and Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.

The petition also seeks legal action against Bersih 2.0 organisers for supposedly defying the King’s advice, and the over 1,000 protestors who were arrested for participating in an illegal rally.

Pro-Bersih supporters have also started a similar campaign on Facebook through a fan page calling for Najib’s resignation.

The page, which was set up shortly after Saturday’s rally, hit its 100,000 target at 3.50am this morning and has continued growing since then. As at 8pm today, a total of 136, 902 people have clicked “Like” on the page.

BERSIH 2.0 berjaya, polis dan media gagal

BERSIH 2.0 berjaya, polis dan media gagal

Wan Nik Wan Yussof, Harakah Daily
Bersih 2.0 bukan pengacau. Buktinya puluhan ribu rakyat berjaya berhimpun menyokong lapan tuntutan Bersih 2.0.
Maka, ia lambang kegerunan penguasa Umno-BN kerana mengontrol kementerian polis supaya jadi sedemikian.
Polis sudah dijadikan perisai menyekat serangan baju kuning. Sekali gus menyerlahkan kekencangan denyutan nadi pemimpin Umno-BN, khususnya Datuk Seri Mohd Najib selaku presiden parti yang memilihnya sebagai perdana menteri ke-6 Malaysia. Cukuplah. Layaknya Najib sebagai pemimpin Umno terakhir!
Pengongkong rakyat

Ia suatu ciptaan, bukan realiti tentang perhimpunan Bersih 2.0.

Jika benar gagal, kenapa perlu tangkap sampai hampir dua ribu orang?

Re: Human Rights Violations against Bersih 2.0

Dear Prime Minister Najib,

We write to raise our very serious concerns about the escalating harassment, intimidation, and crackdown by your government against the leaders and supporters of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih). UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/60/251 states that members of the Human Rights Council shall “uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights.” Malaysia’s image and standing as a member of the UN Human Rights Council is being severely tarnished when instead of responding substantively to the detailed proposals for electoral reforms made by Bersih, you and your government have unleashed a barrage of arbitrary arrests of Bersih’s leaders and supporters in violation of their fundamental rights to freedom of association, expression, and peaceful assembly. Malaysia should immediately release all those being arbitrarily detained under the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance of 1969, the Sedition Act of 1948, article 122 of the penal code, and other laws for peaceful Bersih-related activities; rescind the decision to declare Bersih an illegal organization and stop arresting peaceful political activists promoting Bersih 2.0; and allow the march of Bersih 2.0 planned in Kualu Lumpur on July 9, 2011 to proceed.

Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) and other organizations on the ground in Malaysia have documented that police have arrested or summoned at least 150 persons for investigation on politically motivated charges. Most serious is your government’s use of preventive detention in violation of fundamental due process rights under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) on July 2 to hold six Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) leaders, including Sungai Siput MP Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, PSM deputy chairperson M. Saraswathy, central committee members Choo Chon Kai and M. Sukumaran, Sungai Siput branch secretary A. Letchumanan, and PSM Youth leader Sarat Babu. We call on you to order the Home Minister to immediately rescind his arrest order under the EO and free the six PSM leaders, and urge you to publicly commit that the EO, the Internal Security Act (ISA,) and other preventive detention laws will not be used again against Bersih leaders and supporters in the lead-up to the July 9 march.

We are also extremely concerned by your government’s action to charge the above-mentioned 6 PSM leaders and another 24 PSM activists (who were pulled off a bus heading to Penang) for offenses under penal code article 122 (“waging war against the king”), the Sedition Act, and the Police Act of 1967. The authorities were acting in violation of basic rights to freedom of expression and freedom of association when they arrested peaceful members of a political party for possessing t-shirts and campaign pamphlets simply because the government does not approve of their content. This action is contrary to article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which provides that “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media.” Accordingly, we call on your government to immediately release all of these activists still in custody and drop these charges against them.

Similarly, the police should be ordered to end their wave of harassment and arrests against Bersih activists who are peacefully promoting the July 9 march by making presentations or speeches, distributing pamphlets or other literature, wearing garments associated with Bersih, and other similar actions. Article 20 (1) of the UDHR states that “Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.” Your government should immediately release any such activists it is holding for promoting Bersih, and drop all charges against them that violate their right to freedom of expression and association. The police should also return confiscated office machines and campaign materials belonging to Bersih, including laptops, t-shirts, leaflets, and banners, that were seized during the police raid on June 29 at the EMPOWER office, which was functioning as the secretariat of Bersih.

Bersih was established for the purpose of promoting reform of Malaysia’s electoral laws, regulations, and procedures. As a coalition of over 60 NGOs, it has made comprehensive proposals that deserve the consideration of your government and the Election Commission. The Bersih leaders and supporters have pursued their rights to participation in their government, as provided by article 21(1) of the UDHR, which states “Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.” For this reason, your government is violating the right to freedom of association by designating Bersih as an “illegal organization” under section 5 of the Societies Act of 1966. Your government has failed to provide any credible evidence to substantiate the Registrar of Societies’ claims that Bersih is trying to topple the government, or is a risk to public order, safety, economy, and sovereignty.

Bersih’s leaders have publicly pledged that the planned July 9 march will be peaceful. The Malaysian government should allow the march to proceed and clearly undertake not to unilaterally block, disrupt, or otherwise break up the march as long as it remains peaceful. Similarly, the planned marches by Perkasa and UMNO Youth should also be allowed under the same provisos and conditions that they are peaceful. We call on the authorities to confine their role to maintaining the peace by ensuring all three marches and rallies to be held on July 9 remain separate so that there are no incidents between marchers. The police should not be permitted to harass or arrest persons peacefully travelling to join and participate in those marches on July 9.

Finally, the government’s use of draconian preventive detention laws is incompatible with your government’s seat on the UN Human Rights Council. We note that when you became Malaysia’s prime minister in April 2009, you pledged your “intention to uphold civil liberties” and expressed your “regard for the fundamental rights of the people of Malaysia.” We call on you to turn these pledges into concrete action by ordering law enforcement officials to immediately cease use of all preventive detention laws, and by starting a time-bound process to repeal those laws. The Malaysian penal code and criminal justice system are fully capable of addressing situations of internal security, and should be allowed to do so without resorting to preventive detention, which results in long-term arbitrary detention without the right to a fair trial.

Your government stepped back from tabling the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) for amendment by parliament in March 2010. We are concerned that amending the law is not an adequate remedy because the law’s core premise runs contrary to international human rights standards. Rather, we urge your government to publicly push for immediate repeal of the ISA and the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance 1969 as recommended in 2003 and 2005 by Suhakam, the national Human Rights Commission of Malaysia and the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police respectively. Your government should also repeal provisions allowing for preventive detention under the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance 1969, the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985, and the Restricted Residency Act 1933, as called for by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in their report following their June 2010 mission to Malaysia.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Does Hishammuddin Dare To Ban Perkasa As He Has Banned Bersih ?
Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 4 July 2011.

Does Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein Dare To Ban Perkasa As He Has Banned Bersih Or Arrest Senator Ezam Mohamad And Khairy Jamaluddin Just As The Police Has Arrested Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj Under The Emergency Ordinance To Prove That The Police Does Not Practice Double-Standards Or Favouritism?

Does Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein dare to ban Perkasa as he has banned Bersih or arrest UMNO’s Senator Ezam Mohamad and UMNO Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin just as the police has arrested Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj under the Emergency Ordinance to prove that the police does not practice double-standards or favouritism?

DAP questions Hishammuddin insistence that the authorities will act fairly in stopping all gatherings despite only outlawing electoral reforms group Bersih, when no action was taken against UMNO and Perkasa for organising a violent demonstration in Penang on 1.7.2011. Why has Hishamuddin also not arrested Ezam under the Emergency Ordinance for his threats that there is no need to wait for general elections and he wanted to do more protests to force me to step down as Chief Minister earlier?

The Penang Chinese Journalists and Photographers Association (Pewaju) has condemned the unprovoked attacks on a journalist, a photographer and a videographer by the protestors during violent and illegal rallies in George Town downtown and on Penang Bridge. Pewaju questioned why the police did not enforce the law and failed to take preventive measures to stop the demonstration before hand when they already knew about it a day earlier.

Question also arises on why the police have been so tough to clamp down on the Bersih 2.0 rally which is yet to take place, while being incompetent in halting an illegal rally by Umno and Perkasa that actually took place. What is shocking is Pewaju’s statement that the attacks on the journalists took place right before the police eyes, but the law enforcers were hapless, helpless and hopeless to stop the assault. The ineptness of the police raised a question on their integrity, competency and credibility to protect ordinary Malaysians.

DAP supports peaceful demonstrations but condemns violent demonstrations. The failure by the police to act against the violent demonstration by UMNO and Perkasa only shows that there is clear double-standards and favouritism.

Jeyakumar was unjustly arrested under the Emergency Ordinance with 5 other PSM members despite the government’s failure to produce any proof that he was waging war against the King and country. Allegations of spreading communism is ridiculous when Malaysia enjoys close relations with Communist countries like Cuba, China and Vietnam.

Should not then Khairy Jamaluddin be also arrested and charged for trying to revive communism by setting up a permanent secretariat on October 12 2009 to strengthen ties between Barisan Nasional Youth and the Communist Youth League of China (CYL). Barisan Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin had said that the permanent secretariat would facilitate continuous bilateral programmes to promote a stronger bond between the two entities.

Clearly the BN government is only victimising Bersih supporters who are arrested in the past week and its secretariat raided on Wednesday, when they have not organised any demonstration whilst UMNO and Perkasa demonstrations are allowed to proceed unpunished. These unjust actions will only sully Malaysia’s international image and its record of not practicing what it preaches on respecting basic human rights.

Shocking: Girl's corpse stripped and raped

Shocking: Girl's corpse stripped and raped
AsiaOne
Fri, Jun 10, 2011

SARAWAK, Malaysia – The body of a 15-year-old girl was stripped of her clothes and raped after it had been buried for three days.

The corpse was found naked, with the deceased’s green shirt, black pants and underwear discarded on the ground beside of the grave.

The assailant had replaced the lid of the coffin and then buried it again.

Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the corpse was discovered by her family members after they went back to the grave three days after the burial.

They were shocked to find the body lying naked outside the coffin. The family hurriedly re-buried her.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, this is the first time such an incident has happened in the area. The case is still under police investigation.

The girl had died of an illness.

Not a solo act

The district chief for the area said the assailant may have other motives for committing this crime.

Lianhe Wanbao reported him as saying that the entire incident looked very organised and was not something that could be executed by one person.

Residents in the area speculated as to what could be the cause of the incident. However, none of the rumours were confirmed as the girl’s family did not accept any interviews.

Bomoh rapes problematic woman who consulted him

Bomoh rapes problematic woman who consulted him
The Star/Asia News Network
Mon, Jun 13, 2011

MIRI, Malaysia - Troubled by a rocky marriage, a woman in Miri sought the help of a bomoh for a solution only to be raped by him, Metro Ahad reported.

The medium, in his 50s, allegedly assaulted the victim after giving her a floral bath and persuading her to make believe he was her husband.

Thinking it was part of the ritual to treat her misfortune, the woman followed his every instruction and for two months did not tell anyone about what happened.

It was only when she realised the bomoh's treatment was not working that she made a police report on Saturday about the incident that occurred in April.

In a separate case, a 15-year-old boy in Bukit Mertajam told police he had been sexually abused by a man who had moved into the neighbourhood about a month ago.

The teenager said the man would sneak into his house each time his (the suspect's) wife was not at home.

The boy claimed the man, in his 20s, forced him to perform oral sex.

He lodged a police report against the neighbour after complaining to his father.

Malaysia MEMANG BOLEH!!

Malaysia

Dont be misled and think the Government is doing good. It is only on the surface while on the side they are running the country down, the education system is down, the health care is hopeless(Shah Alam hospital is not up yet) as some of the drugs are not available in GH ,facilities for the aging population is not in place. My time to enjoy the facilities in this country is gone. Now i am going to fight for the good of my children as we need to make the difference for their future. This has to start now. No matter what.....................

PLS DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE ON THE OPPOSITION.

Yunnan PaiYao a poor man medicine, the miracle powder for wound is now RM9. Previously it was only RM5. And the reason - because it must have the halogram sticker approved and imported by crony. Imagine an extra 80% increase overnight to fill the pocket of the crony. And this is only one item. Our salary don't even increase by 80%!!! Rakyat are being suck dry. The govt must be changed or else many hardship will follow. Wake up! Lets Storm the Bastille!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storming_of_the_Bastille

What do I get for paying toll everyday?

Now I have to pay an extra RM50 for each credit card. For what?
Extra GST (goods and services tax). Again, how does that benefit me?

Look at the long list:

I have to pay for security guards because the police are hopeless.

I have to install filters because the water supply is dirty.
I have to watch satellite tv because the government broadcasts crap.

I mean REAL CRAP !!

Many kids have to go for tuition or to private schools because the government schools are bad.

We have to pay IPPs (independent power providers) because the government cannot provide consistent electricity.

We have to pay Indah Water to clean up the sewers.

We have to pay tax on foreign cars because Mahathir wants to keep his dying local car industry alive. ON top of it APs cost bcoz of his cronies.
Most have to drive because the government cannot provide good public transport.

We have to pay to sustain the government's affirmative action policies.

We have to pay for private health care because the public hospitals are crowded .
All in all, we have to pay a PREMIUM to stay in this country!

1Malaysia Boleh??? You decide.

But how is it that Opposition State Government in Penang can give her citizens free internet access within one year in Government , rice for the poor, while BN Government in power since Independence cannot do it?..... but instead building more high rise building??? Think!!!

Tapi adik ipar aku duduk situ dah lama, dekat 6 tahun.Duduk situ, kerja bukannya kerja besar, kerja pun chef kecil-kecilan dekat restoran.Adik aku pulak kerja jadi baby sitter.Gaji, takde la besar, tak sampai pun seribu pound tak silap aku...tapi...

1. Baju kat sana 3 pound. Kat Malaysia baju2 tu hanya dijual di Pavilion,KL.Baju orang kebanyakan di UK ,baju orang kaya di Malaysia .

2. Kasut Lacoste kat sana 20 pound.

3. Sewa bilik ada dapur 200 pound.

4. Transportation, takde, naik bas, naik tube, satu hari punya tiket 5 pound unlimited ride.Tak payah tunggu lama, paling lama tunggu bas,5 minit 2 bijik datang.Naik tube tak pernah rasa tak selesa.Ada Oyster kad, senang nak ke mana-mana.

5. Pegi Asda ke Tesco ke, beli barang dapur, satu troli 20 pound.Lepas untuk seminggu.

6. Tak pernah rasa nak beli kereta sebab membazir, orang kaya berlagak aje pakai kereta ke mana-mana.

7. Jalanraya sesuai untuk bawak basikal.Adik ipar aku, main transportation dia,basikal,undang-undang... wajib pakai helmet.

8. Tambang tube nak ke airport...3 pound.

9. DVD ori sekeping 3 pound.Aku beli Ice Age 1 dan 2 boxset 6 pound.

......kerja mesti kena ambik overtime, kalau tak duit tak cukup. Barang makanan sekali pegi beli Rm200.Nak pegi beli barang pun susah sebab public transport susah. Apa yang Ismail Sabri Yaakob pelik macam mana RPK boleh hidup mewah kat UK kalau orang Malaysia yang kerja dia waiter kedai makan dekat Malaysia Hall pun boleh hidup senang kat sana? Adik ipar aku balik sini, sambil hisap rokok dengan aku dia tanya aku, "Apasal hidup kat Malaysia ni susah sangat?"

Lagi la pelik bila menteri tanya apasal ramai orang lebih gemar migrate ke negara lain... Tukang sapu pun boleh hidup senang kat UK . Marah pulak diorang bila rakyat mempersoalkan "Kenapa menteri mampu hidup mewah kat Malaysia ,layak ke diorang?"

IF YOU AGREE, Pass On for the future of your next generation

Police on alert despite street rally cancellation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will remain on stand-by although the July 9 street rally has been called off.

“We will still be ready for all possibilities to maintain public safety,” said Acting City police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Amar Singh.

Internal Security and Public Order Director Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said there was also the possibility of enlisting the help of the Armed Forces.

“We will have to look at the situation and decide on the proper action required,” he said at a Bersatu Aman police and Armed Forces joint exercise.

The exercise showed the capabilities of the authorities to deal with demonstrations through the use of tear gas and water cannon for crowd control.

Salleh said although it was not in response to the earlier proposed illegal march, the exercise showed that police and the Armed Forces were well equipped to handle any situation.

In KOTA KINABALU, police said they were prepared to maintain peace and security ahead of two planned gatherings on Saturday.

Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Hamza Taib warned the public not to take part in any illegal gathering.

“We will use every law that we can from the Societies Act to Section 108 of the Penal Code (for abetment) and the Police Act.

“We may even consider using the Emergency Ordinance or the Internal Security Act,” he said.

He said 135 police reports had been lodged opposing the Bersih 2.0 rally in Sabah.

Hamza said police received word that Bersih 2.0 supporters would gather at two locations at the historic Padang Merdeka and an open space area near the sea fronting Anjung Selera.

Police, he said, would hold a 12-hour public order exercise tomorrow even though the street demonstrations had been called off.
