‘Tackle sexual harassment’

PETALING JAYA: Sexual harassment in the workplace is still a very real nightmare for the victims as there is inadequate legislation to protect them, said activist Meera Samanther.

Meera, who is Association of Women Lawyers' president, said the current provisions for sexual harassment under the Employment Act was not comprehensive enough to provide proper help to victims.

“We need to pass the Sexual Harassment Bill so that it will be compulsory for employers to formulate proper sexual harassment policies, establish a committee for it and provide quick redress to victims,” she said here yesterday, adding that strong backing from employers would empower women to speak out without fear.

Meera, who will discuss the issue with Capital FM deejay Asha Gill next Wednesday, pointed out that women groups had been lobbying for the Bill to be passed since it was drafted in 2001.

She emphasised the need for such a Bill, which would recognise the right of “every human being to a working environment free of harassment”.

“Sexual harassment is a violation of human dignity and our fundamental liberty to equal opportunities at work,” she stressed, pointing out that men had also become victims.

She urged the public to tune in to the programme as sexual harassment affected both the victims and employers.

“We want to reach out to listeners many of whom may be silent sufferers, who need to know what to do and where to go for help.

“We want the perpetrators to understand how their actions affect victims and employers to understand how work productivity is affected,” she said.

Meera also lauded Capital FM 88.9, Malaysia's first radio station catering to women, for bringing up the idea of speaking about sexual harassment.

Asha, a passionate advocate of women's rights, said it was vital for women to know their rights and stand up for themselves.

“Women should be able to feel confident and reprimand their harasser by saying I feel that is not appropriate', and take the necessary steps to stop it,” she said.

Meera will be speaking along with All Women's Action Society (Awam) programme manager Betty Yeoh on Asha's Eat, Pray, Love show from 11am to noon next Wednesday.

KOD 71

source: http://cenangau.blogspot.com/2011/08/tu-baru-kod-71-macamana-dengan-26-kod.html

Harakahdaily melaporkan:

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Ogos: Jangan terkejut jika bukan Mismah sahaja yang statusnya penduduk tetap disebelah pagi bertukar menjadi warganegara sebelah petang, malah pertukaran serupa turut melibatkan ramai lagi.

Persoalannya adakah setakat tu saja.

Aku ringkaskan senarai kod tu kat bawah ni.

Indeks persepsi Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Najib Altantuya makin merudum.

skor markah sebanyak 69 peratus manakala Cina hanya memuji langkah
transformasi Najib Altantuya sebanyak 38 peratus sahaja.

menyokong tindakan KERAjaan menangani perhimpunan BERSIH 2.0
berbanding 49 peratus yang tidak menyokong.

JALAN PULANG

Kajian terbaru Merdeka Center menunjukkan arah aliran populariti Najib

September 2009 — lima bulan selepas menjadi perdana menteri Malaysia
yang keenam.

“Seramai 59 peratus rakyat Malaysia mengatakan bahawa mereka berpuas

News Release

August 29, 2011

PM’s approval rating declines to 59%

BANGI – The prime minister’s approval rating has taken a dip as found
in the opinion poll released by Merdeka Center for Opinion Research
today.

59% of the Malaysians polled said that they were satisfied with Prime
Minister Najib Tun Razak’s performance in this survey which is 6%
lower compared to 65% recorded in May 2011.

Broken down into ethnic groups, the survey found 69% of Malays, 38% of
Chinese and 69% of Indian respondents expressed satisfaction.

From the survey, we note that the significantly reduced approval
rating may be due to the increased concerns over cost of living
related matters as ordinary citizens begin to feel the impact of hikes
in the price of fuel and electricity.

Besides pocket book issues, the poll result also suggests some linkage
with adverse public perception of how the government handled events
and public discourse arising from the BERSIH 2.0 rally and other
related events.

One half of Malaysians say country headed in the right direction

At the same time, the survey found that 51% of the electorate felt
that the country was headed in the right direction down slightly from
54% in May 2011.

With respect to issues, the survey found that the public’s topmost
concern remained the economy mentioned by an aggregate comprising 38%
of respondents, followed by concerns over social problems at 10%.

Worries over political related matters ranked third at 9% of the public
mindscape, while concerns over public safety and crime stood at 7%.

Majority welcome electoral reform proposals

Close to half (49%) of the respondents claimed they understood about
the demands of BERSIH 2.0, the banned coalition of non-government
organizations demanding for free and fair election in Malaysia.

39% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the way government
handled the issues regarding BERSIH, while 48% of the respondents were
dissatisfied.

30 YEARS OF WHAT...???

Back in the 70s, many of my friends in Terengganu wanted
their children to become teachers. WHY TEACHERS???
The working hours are short & you've longer holidays,
the kampong folks regarded you highly & you've a good
chance of joining politics & eventually becoming a
WAKIL RAKYAT.

Then Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad came along in the 1980s
& he 'poisoned" the minds of the Malays & told them to
become just like the Chinese.(check out his book The
Malay Dilemma = which was initially banned).

Yes, I was there in the Equatorial Hotel in the early days
of 1980s when Dr M first became Prime Minister. His
"war-cry" was for the Malays to follow the Chinese,
become rich like the Chinese, adopt the Chinese "work
ethics", go into partnership with the Chinese.

Dr M provoked & pushed the Malays so that he could
turn them into "Melayu Baru".

Aiyah, Wanita MCA IS SCREAMING ABOUT THE "CHINA
DOLLS" PROBLEM.

They want the government to do something about
because according to them, their husbands are "bonking"
these China Dolls. ACTUALLY AS MANY MALAYS AS CHINESE
ARE "BONKING" THESE CHINA DOLLS.

WHEN YOU TALK TO THESE RELIGIOUS TEACHERS OR
PREACHERS, IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT SEX.

THIS CANNOT, THAT CANNOT, THIS HARAM, THAT HARAM.
ALL YOU HEAR IS ABOUT THIS OR THAT WHICH WILL LEAD
TO SEX.

WHY THIS OBSESSION WITH SEX???

HAVE YOU NOTICED OR NOT THAT MANY OF THESE PEOPLE
"FOLLOW THE PROPHET'S EXAMPLE"

THE EXCUSE THEY ALWAYS OFFER TO JUSTIFY MORE
THAN ONE WIFE)

THESE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE HORNIER THAN A BITCH ON HEAT.
THAT'S WHY THEY ARE SO OBSESSED WITH SEX.
THAT'S WHY EVERYTHING THEY SEE IS ASSOCIATED WITH SEX.

VALENTINE DAY WILL LEAD TO SEX.
PARTIES WILL LEAD TO SEX.
CONCERTS WILL LEAD TO SEX.
THERE IS MORE SEX ON THE INTERNET THEN ANYWHERE ELSE
IN MALAYSIA.
WHY NOT BAN THE INTERNET AS WELL.

While Dr. M was trying to turn the Malays into Chinese,
Anwar Ibrahim, who joined Dr.M soon after the latter became
Prime Minister, pushed for more Islamization.

Now 30 years later, we have a whole bunch of Pseudo Arabs
running around Malaysia saying "this cannot","that cannot",
"this haram","that haram","concerts cannot","valentine day
cannot","skirts cannot","hold hands cannot".

Those of you around my age, will remember the Malays of the
60s. Then, the Malays were VERY DIFFERENT. Go & watch
an old P.Ramlee movie. They partied, the women wore skirts
& sleeveless dresses.

NOW YOU GET ARRESTED IF YOU DO THAT.

CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS WE ARE FACING
IN MALAYSIA???

DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS MOST INTERESTING ABOUT THIS
WHOLE THING???

BOTH DR MAHATHIR & ANWAR ARE NOT PURE MALAYS.
(PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS STATEMENT AS AN INSULT TO
DR MAHATHIR & ANWAR).

ONE WANT TO TURN THE REAL MALAYS INTO ARABS &
THE OTHER WANTS TO TURN THEM INTO CHINESE.

NOW WE HAVE 2 GROUPS OF MALAYS:
1) WHO SPEAKS ABOUT "THIS CANNOT","THAT CANNOT",
"THIS HARAM","THAT HARAM".
2) MATERIALISTIC, CORRUPT, GREEDY, INCONSIDERATE,
RACISTS & ONLY THINK ABOUT MONEY, MONEY, MONEY,
POWER, POWER, POWER.

If I can travel back into time, into the 60s, I would make sure
that I cekik(strangle) both Dr M & Anwar.
MAYBE NOT.
Then Nurul Izzah would not be around today as I hope she
will 1 day emerge as the Opposition Leader & LEAD OUR
NATION INTO A NEW ERA WHERE WE ARE ALL JUST
MALAYSIANS.

WE NEED THE YOUNGER GENERATION TO DO THAT.
THE OLDER GENERATIONS HAVE SCREWED UP
COUNTRY BIG TIME.

AHMAD DEEDAT, A GREAT CRITIC OF CHRISTIANITY,
KNEW MORE ABOUT THE BIBLE & CAN QUOTE FROM
PASSAGES FROM THE BIBLE & TELL YOU WHICH VERSION

City cabbies want coupon system abolished, cite less revenue

City cabbies want coupon system abolished, cite less revenue

By Lisa J. Ariffin
January 29, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — Klang Valley taxi drivers want the authorities to abolish the coupon system put in place in several city landmarks, saying today it burdens the driver with less revenue and the consumer with higher charges.

A group claiming to represent 200 taxi drivers gathered today and asked the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to meet them and resolve issues, including abolishing the coupons which was instituted to prevent rampant over-charging.

“(We) strongly feel the coupon system on metered taxis has led to two systems — a premise charge for the taxis, and also a counter charge,” taxi driver Amran Jan told a press conference here today.

“Additionally, only members are allowed to queue up for passengers. This clearly points to monopoly,” he added.

Amran said under the coupon system, taxi drivers are required to pay a monthly membership fee of RM100 to operate in designated areas which includes tourist hot spots like the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), Sunway Pyramid and KL Sentral.

“The system profit is 10 per cent from the coupon price, but zero per cent is given to the taxi drivers. The coupon price is also not fixed,” he said, citing KL Sentral to LCCT as an example.

“From KL Sentral to LCCT, the price is fixed at RM90, but from LCCT to KL Sentral, it is fixed at RM75. Why the double standard?” he asked.

“Moreover, the time spent queueing up for passengers (at least 45 minute a trip) leads to profit loss in the long run,” he added.

Cab driver Zaki Bashir said the system would lead to haggling of fares and concentration of drivers following loss of operating areas.

“(We drivers) have to earn a living too. We have families to feed. Right now, there is no protection for us. All the negative perception is put upon us,” he said.

“SPAD’s coupon system, which they say was implemented “to increase service quality”, is only rhetoric. They do not care for the taxi drivers.”

The group was accompanied by Batu MP Chua Tian Chang and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar. There are nearly 40,000 taxis in the Malay peninsula with some 32,000 operating in the Klang Valley.

Apart from taxis, SPAD is charge of public transport such as buses and commuter trains. The city bus system has also received complaints from operators who say they have incurred losses due to controls over ticket prices. SPAD has allocated RM400 million to help bus operators overcome their problems.

Woman cheated of $6,200 in Johor Baru scam

Woman cheated of $6,200 in Johor Baru scam

By Cherie Thio
A Singaporean hawker assistant holidaying in Malaysia was cheated of RM15,000 (S$6,200) - much of it her winnings from the Genting Highlands casino - then taken back to Singapore in a car.

When she tried to make a police report at the Singapore checkpoint in Woodlands, she said she was told that she had to report the crime to the Malaysian police as it happened there.

She decided to go back to Malaysia in the same car. When she started panicking, the driver showed her a knife he had with him. He then stopped at an isolated forested area, pulled her out of the car and sped off.

After one hour, she managed to flag down a passing car, and the driver took her to a Malaysian relative's home.
